On the wall …

I saw something new to me the other day. Disgusting but new.

I went to Morton’s Steak House for a Red Cross benefit for the poor people in Joplin, Kansas, who lost their entire town. Morton’s is on the ground floor of that pink building across from Palm Beach. It is run by the people who make Morton’s salt and have steak houses all over.

It is not cheap although the Red Cross benefit only cost $25 to get in. But then, four ounces of grocery store wine cost $11 at this function. If I could sell that, I would be rich.

The cheapest bottle of wine in the place is like $70 once you apply the tip. I’d figure a meal for two with a bottle of wine would be in the $200 range. This is not trivial.

What impressed me is that they have wine lockers for their best customers. These things are like gym lockers except they have glass fronts so you can see what wines are in there. These things come with brass plates that tell who they belong to and key locks so no one can get in them except the owners.

My thought would be how much of an asshole do you have to be to rent a wine locker to store your vintage horde in a restaurant where the cheapest wine you can get costs $70 and the others go up to four figures?

How could you possibly more say you don’t give a shit.

Morton’s has a whole wall of these lockers.
