John Boehner

with 4 comments

Rachel Maddow just did a show with the premise that John Boehner is not doing a good job as Speaker of the House.

I must disagree.

Rachel is coming from a place that says getting things done is important.

John Boehner is coming from a place that says confuse the issue, set up straw men, and broadcast disinformation, and you have done your job.

John Boehner doesn’t want to actually do anything. He wants to keep things from being done.

John Boehner doesn’t want to repeal Obama care. He just wants to keep it where it is – with private insurance companies still being the middle-men and still taking a profit.

John Boehner doesn’t want to balance the budget. He doesn’t care about the budget. He wants to keep the rich from paying taxes. And he wants continued unjustified spending on the military and the private contractors who gain from it. Ever heard the term “war profits?” Well, we have two completely unjustified wars going on.

The way he does this is cry (almost literally) about the deficit while saying the only way to attack it is to cut Medicare and Social Security and the arts and education and the people who inspect your meat to make sure it is safe to eat, and, get this, the people who land the airplane you are on. This makes people think about their benefits instead of thinking about the trillions of dollars wasted on foreign wars or the unthinkable concentration of wealth that is wrecking our country.

The way to attack the deficit is to reduce military spending and tax the rich. John Boehner would have you think about anything else than that.

John Boehner is neither a good nor a bad Speaker of the House. That is just a title he holds. His real job is to keep you from thinking about anything that would solve the problems this country and this world faces because it would cost his constituents – the corporations and the rich – money.

I would say he is doing a decent job of that.

I mean, it is kinda hard for me to thing how I would tell you that you are going to die of cancer or something because John McCain needs a new house.

John Boehner has a hard job.

But it isn’t Speaker of the House.

  2. Stay tuned Chuck! When we get back from recess, there will be just four days for the House and Senate to figure this out or shut down the government. (Oh! By the way, can Lori and I — and Moo the Cat — come live with you for a while?)
