I just learned that a very good friend of mine is sick – sick meaning cancer. She has a good prospect of living a normal life because there is treatment. And she works for the government. That means she has health care that doesn’t run out.

I have many other friends that have no health insurance because they worked for a newspaper that fired them to cut costs and, along with their jobs went their health care.

Under Obama care, they have to go out and find insurance and pay for it. They can’t be denied insurance because they have a pre-existing condition, but they still have to pay for it. Health insurance doesn’t come with the part-time jobs they were able to get and that pay lots less than the jobs they had.

They, who once had jobs and still would if newspapers had any idea what they were doing, basically don’t have health care because they can’t afford it.

At my small operation, there are hundreds of them.

Bill Maher asked last Friday “Isn’t it patriotic to want all our citizens to be healthy?”

I would ask something more. Is it humane not to?

  2. In some ways, I hope the Supreme Court does strike down the new health care reform law quickly so we can go into the 2012 campaign with a simple message: “Medicare for all.”
